WILMINGTON, N.Y. (March 6, 2019) – University of Vermont Health Network - Elizabethtown Community Hospital today held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new High Peaks Health Center, located at 18 Community Circle, Wilmington.  The health center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm and is accepting new patients.

Hospital leaders, board members, providers and staff were joined at the ribbon cutting by Town of Wilmington Deputy Supervisor Darin Forbes, the Whiteface Mountain Regional Visitors Bureau, local business and community leaders, and patients of the health center.

The 3,400 square foot free-standing facility features a spacious, comfortable waiting room, private registration area, four exam rooms, office space, nurses’ work station and lab area. Storage has also been significantly increased, along with appropriate space for the building’s energy-efficient heating and cooling system and its communications infrastructure. The building was architecturally designed to complement its beautiful surroundings, near the foot of Whiteface Mountain.

“We are excited to have completed this project,” said John Remillard, president at Elizabethtown Community Hospital. “The new health center is in a beautifully-designed building that provides significantly more space for both our patients and staff. Patients will be much more comfortable and have more privacy, and staff will be able to do their jobs much more efficiently.”

According to Matt Nolan, VP, COO at Elizabethtown Community Hospital, operations at High Peaks Health Center continued during construction and the transition from the old location into the new building was seamless. “We are really proud that our patients never experienced a disruption in care. They were able to see their primary care provider throughout the entire construction process.”

The health center was built on land purchased from the Town of Wilmington. Prior to the new construction, the health center had shared office space in the town’s 1,000 square foot offices.

Remillard thanked the community for supporting the project. “Supervisor Randy Preston and the entire town board have been great partners to us and have helped make this project possible,” he said. “They recognized that a key component to having a healthy, thriving community is access to high-quality health care. We’ve received such positive feedback on the facility from the board and the community. I think everyone is excited to see such a beautiful finished product.”

High Peaks Health Center is part of a network of six community-based primary care centers in Essex County owned and operated by Elizabethtown Community Hospital. In 2018, High Peaks Health Center had more than 2,500 patient visits.

“Through our health centers, we’re able to provide our family, friends and communities with exceptional primary care and preventive services close to home, and if they require specialty or more advanced care, they have access to all the resources of Elizabethtown Community Hospital and the University of Vermont Health Network,” noted Remillard.
