Active Shooter Drill in Ticonderoga Helps Emergency Planning

Yesterday, University of Vermont Health Network - Elizabethtown Community Hospital partnered with Elderwood at Ticonderoga, Elderwood Village at Ticonderoga and Hudson Headwaters Health Network to host an Active Shooter Drill at the Ticonderoga Fire Department.

The tabletop exercise, led by the New York State Police and New York State Office of Emergency Management, drew 53 representatives from local agencies and organizations including:
 

  • Elderwood (Lake Placid and Ticonderoga)
  • Elderwood Village at Ticonderoga
  • Elizabethtown Community Hospital
  • Essex County District Attorney
  • Essex County Dispatch
  • Essex County Sherriff’s Office
  • Hudson Headwaters Health Network
  • First United Methodist Church
  • Ticonderoga Fire Department
  • Ticonderoga Police Department
  • Town of Ticonderoga


​Trooper James D’Ambro, Troop B School and Community Outreach Coordinator for the NYS Police and one of the morning’s facilitators, said, “Exercises like this will help the Ticonderoga community improve coordination and collaboration for emergency planning.”

Bob Ortmyer, president of Elizabethtown Community Hospital, said "We appreciate the time and effort of all those involved in the planning and implementation of this drill.  Training events like this better prepare us  to help our community during an emergency situation.”

This is the second consecutive year a drill like this was held.
