Dr. David Clauss to oversee Emergency Departments at Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga

Elizabethtown, N.Y. (July 13, 2018) – The University of Vermont Health Network -Elizabethtown Community Hospital recently announced the appointment of David Clauss, M.D., as Emergency Department medical director.

In this newly created role, Dr. Clauss will oversee the day to day operations of the Emergency Departments in Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga. In addition to his administrative role, Dr. Clauss will treat patients in both Emergency Departments.

“I am thrilled to join the Elizabethtown Community Hospital community, and look forward to working with everyone to continue the outstanding care already being provided to our patients, while identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement,” said Dr. Clauss. “I also look forward to making use of relationships throughout the University of Vermont Health Network towards the goal of providing optimal care to our patients at ECH.”

“Dr. Clauss is a skilled emergency medicine physician with years of experience working in the region’s only level I trauma center,” said John Remillard, president of Elizabethtown Community Hospital. “I’m confident that under his leadership, our Emergency Departments will continue to improve patient care, providing our community with the type of high-quality emergency services found in much larger communities.”

Dr. Clauss is the attending physician for the UVM Medical Center’s Emergency Department in Burlington, VT.  Since joining the UVM Medical Center in 1991, he has served in a number of clinical and administrative roles including assistant medical director of Emergency Services, and president and president-elect of the UVM Medical Center Medical Staff.  He is also an associate professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine.  Dr. Clauss will continue to provide patient care part-time at the UVM Medical Center’s Emergency Department in his new role.

Dr. Clauss attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, with a bachelor of science in biology. He earned his medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Dr. Clauss is board certified in internal medicine.

Elizabethtown Community Hospital operates two 24-hour Emergency Departments on its Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga Campuses, treating more than 12,000 patients each year.  In March, the hospital opened a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department in Ticonderoga, as part of the facility’s $9.1 million transformation and modernization project.
