Elizabethtown Community Hospital Spring Health Fair Offers Free A1C Screening, Healthy Lifestyle Information

Walk-in event planned for Elizabethtown, Ticonderoga campuses April 23 and 24

ELIZABETHTOWN –The University of Vermont Health Network – Elizabethtown Community Hospital (ECH) Spring Health Fair offers an opportunity to take control of your health with free screenings and education. The event takes place in Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga, Wednesday and Thursday, April 23 and 24.

On Wednesday, April 23, the event will be held at 75 Park Street, Elizabethtown from 2 to 5 pm. The following day, Wednesday, April 24, it will take place from 2 to 5 pm at 101 Adirondack Drive in Ticonderoga. At both locations, free, non-fasting A1c and cholesterol testing, blood pressure checks and EKGs will be offered along with information about smoking cessation, diabetes and exercise.

“We’re inviting the community to take advantage of this free event because being informed about your health is an important step to taking control and making informed decisions about improvements and prevention,” Jodi Gibbs, ECH quality and population health assistant explained.

The A1C test, used to diagnose and manage diabetes, is a simple blood test that measures the average blood sugar levels over the past three months. It can help detect diabetes or pre-diabetes early and for those living with the disease, A1C checks can help manage the condition, prevent complications and improve quality of life. Also tested will be cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends that adults (age 20 and older) have their cholesterol checked at least every 4 to 6 years. Elevated levels are an indicator of cardiovascular disease. EKGs measure the heart’s electrical activity and help diagnose or monitor a variety of heart conditions.

All events are free and open to the public, no appointments necessary. Questions may be directed to Jodi Gibbs at jgibbs@ech.org or 518-585-3761.
