Two Emergency Medicine Physicians Join UVM Health Network - Elizabethtown Community Hospital Emergency Department

Elizabethtown, NY – The University of Vermont Health Network - Elizabethtown Community Hospital has welcomed two new emergency medicine physicians to its care team. Dr. Mark Bisanzo joined the medical staff last fall and will work part-time between the hospital’s Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga campuses. Dr. Laura Mulvey joined the team in January and will work full-time at the Elizabethtown campus.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Bisanzo and Dr. Mulvey,” said Elizabethtown Community Hospital Medical Director of Emergency Medicine and Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Clauss. “They bring extensive and diverse experience in emergency medicine and are excellent additions to our care team.”

Dr. Bisanzo is an associate professor of emergency medicine at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, and serves as head of Quality Assurance for the UVM Health Network’s newly formed Network Division of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Bisanzo graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed emergency medicine residencies at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, both in Boston, MA. He was also a Global Health Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital.

“I am very happy to have joined the emergency medicine team at Elizabethtown Community Hospital,” said Dr. Bisanzo. “Having worked in large hospitals in major cities as well as hospitals in smaller rural communities, what I find rewarding is working clinically to serve a tight-knit community that takes pride in their local hospital. And I’ve found that here in Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga.”

Dr. Mulvey completed her medical training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed an emergency medicine residency at Maimonides Medical Center. Prior to joining the Elizabethtown Community Hospital team, Dr. Mulvey practiced emergency medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and at UVM Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital.  Dr. Mulvey’s experience as a provider and patient at Maimonides Medical Center – an epicenter of last spring’s COVID-19 outbreak, was documented in Time Magazine’s special “Heroes of the Frontlines” issue.

Elizabethtown Community Hospital urges patients with critical health concerns to seek prompt medical care - especially when it comes to signs of heart attack or stroke. At all of its facilities, Elizabethtown Community Hospital continues to take precautions to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure to patients and staff. All who enter are screened for COVID-19 symptoms, have their temperature taken, and are asked to wear a mask. Most patients are registered by phone, and visitation is limited according to New York State guidelines to reinforce social distancing measures.

Elizabethtown Community Hospital operates two 24-hour emergency departments on its Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga campuses, treating more than 13,000 patients each year. In 2019, the hospital completed a $9.1 million update of the Ticonderoga campus, transforming the former Moses Ludington Hospital into a state-of-the-art 24-hour emergency department and outpatient center.
